Foods to Avoid When Losing Weight


Certain foods you need to remove from your eating habits if you want a healthier body.

Losing weight is a challenging process and even more so when your eating habits aren’t up to par. Proper diet and nutrition is essential to losing weight. You can exercise and train all you want, but if you aren’t eating the right types of food, you will not achieve your full potential. Sticking to raw foods, things which haven’t been processed in any way are the best nutritional sources of energy to put into your body. There are many types of foods which will sabotage your weight loss plans so you will want to steer clear of foods which contain any of the following:

  1. Trans fats –Found most often in baked goods such as cakes or cookies, trans fats should be eliminated from your diet whether you are looking to lose weight or not. There are no known benefits for consuming this type of fat. It actually raises your levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol while decreasing your levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. This is the recipe for heart disease.
  2. Processed foods – Fast food may be convenient, but it completely jeopardizes your diet. A typical fast food meal can be in excess of 1,000 calories and have very little nutritional value. A Big Mac alone contains 590 calories, the equivalent of a five hour walk or two hours on a step machine, and 34g of fat. It is no wonder that “fast food” undoubtedly puts you on the fast track to obesity.
  3. White flour– Stripped of all nutrients, white flour is one of the top foods to avoid when trying to lose weight. Even in “enriched” brands, the lack of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Sticking to whole grains is essential to maintaining a healthy weight. Sources of white flour include pasta, white breads, and baked goods like cakes or pastries.
  4. White sugar – Refined white sugar essentially has the same problems as white flour. The increase of refined sugars in the modern diet is a major cause of diabetes, high blood pressure, and other various diseases. Because the body is not equipped to handle all the refined carbohydrates, excess insulin is produced resulting in additional fat stores or weight gain. White sugar is often found in baked goods and sugary fruit drinks or soda.

Eliminating these food choices will help you stay on track to your weight loss goals. Try to only eat foods that are naturally occurring is the best approach to becoming more healthy. Be sure to replace your negative eating habits with positive ones which will stay with you for the rest of your life.
