Interval training is repetitive intervals of both high and moderate impact activities, such as alternating between sprinting and jogging.

This type of advanced training technique allows one to perform a high calorie burning workout is a significantly shorter period of time than steady state cardiovascular activity. Typically, a 25 minute high intensity interval training session is used in place of a 45 minute running session and can easily burn the same amount of calories with additional benefits to boot. A great example of interval training is sprinting for 1 minute follower by 2 minutes of light jogging repeated for 20 minutes.
